Mearns Camera Club took part in the SPF (Scottish Photographic Federation) Championship at Stirling Management Centre last Sunday.
Some 36 clubs were competing from all over Scotland and Mearns came a very creditable sixth overall.
This was a great achievement for one of the smaller photographic clubs in Scotland.
Many of Mearns pictures had high scores of 12 or above but of special note is the fact that two members were given a maximum score of 15 points from the the three judges - ‘Cosmos’ by John McSevney and ‘The Cuillins’ by Brian Doyle.
’The Cuillins’ was also given a commendation by the judges.
At their meeting on February 18 at the Community Centre, Mearns Camera Club members were treated to a very interesting talk by Hunter Kennedy MPAGB, EFIAP who is a member and former president of Carluke Camera Club.
His talk was entitled ‘My Style Of Photography’ and was finely illustrated with a superb collection of prints to emphasise the various points Hunter was making.
He showed the progression of his photography over a number of years.
His main interests were landscapes and people and latterly he had developed a more minimalist style to some of his work.
At all times he emphasised the need for depth in pictures and amply illustrated the techniques he used to achieve this in his images. A large number of the prints used were put on display for members to peruse and admire.
Club president David Gold gave Hunter a vote of thanks for his excellent talk commenting on the quality of his work, and the usefuleness of the advice given all delivered with a dry sense of humour that everyone appreciated.
