Carol concert at Fetteresso

The lights are up and the shops may have started their Christmas season several weeks ago, but Fetteresso Church’s celebrations only really get started with the choir’s annual carol concert. This takes place in the church on Friday December 14 and starts at 7.30pm when an audience of over 200 will again be expected.

The choir’s programme will as usual feature a selection of joyous and melodic music featuring carols old and new. There will be quite a few brand new carols including up-tempo songs such as ‘Listen’ by Joel Raney and the very dramatic ‘Shines the light’ by Susan and Lee Dengler – new composers to the choir. John Rutter’s carol ‘The colours of Christmas’ will give the audio-visual experts an opportunity to demonstrate their skills. There will of course also be a sprinkling of old favourites with ‘The hands that first held Mary’s child’ being one which attracted a lot of favourable comments on its first airing.

In addition to the chorus items, there will be solos and duets by Jean and Peter Webster. Organist and choirmaster Ian Gillis will accompany the choir on keyboard and piano and he is delighted that local clarinet player Lesley Clark will again be taking part.

The audience - many of whom are now regulars at this annual event - will again have an opportunity to join in with some traditional carols before enjoying the festive mulled wine and refreshments which will be served after the concert.

Tickets for the concert will be available at the door priced £5 (children –free) and a large proportion of the takings will again be donated to charity
