Concert recorded for fundraising CD

A MAJOR fundraising live concert and recording took place at the Clatterin’ Brig Restaurant on Thursday evening.
Singer/songwriter Dave Ramsay from Catterline has been working on this fund raising project for over a year, and in conjunction with Ray Milne, presented a showcase of fifteen local musicians on the evening. Sixteen new pieces of heritage songs, music and poetry, were penned for the event.
the Clatterin’ Brig and Tales o’ Drumtochty Glen concert and subsequent double CD will raise funds for Forest View Centre, a day centre for people with learning disabilities, Jubilee House, a respite and holiday house in Stonehaven, and Auchenblae Primary School.
Cameron Ross, an ex-Mackie Academy pupil, currently studying at the Centre for Excellence in Scottish Traditional Music at Plockton, played a special composition of his own, called the Laird o’ Duncrone, all about the cowardly murder of a local Laird.
Mackie pupil Ross Hull, overall winner of the Stonehaven Rotary Young Musician of the Year competition, played two of his own compositions, Arnbarrow Hill, and the Honesty Boohshop.
Two more Mackie pupils, Alison Esson, and Emma Campbell, recorded Sam o’ Shanter, their poem which was the overall winner of the Father of the Bard poetry trophy, an annual joint venture between Forest View Centre and Mackie Academy.
Five songs were written by the pupils of Auchenblae School for their St Palladius Project, and these were also recorded on the new CD.
Dave Ramsay said: “It is great to see young people not only researching their community heritage, but actively contributing to it for future generations.”
