Dentist puts smile on patients’ faces

A local dentist has given CLAN patients something to smile about after he kindly donated a therapy bed to their Stonehaven office to make experiences easier and more comfortable for cancer patients.

Kenny Jones, owner of Arduthie Dental Practice in Stonehaven, said as a dentist he meets a lot of people within the community who have, or have a family member with cancer and notices that quite often people are told the news and don’t know what to do or how to feel.

Following this, Dr Jones approached the local CLAN branch on Robert Street to say he wanted to make a donation and asked if there was anything he could help with. At this point, the CLAN office’s therapy bed was on its last legs and patients often found it difficult to get up onto the static bed for treatments such as massage, reiki, and reflexology. With this, he made the donation of a new luxury therapy bed to make the life of cancer patients that little bit easier.

The new bed has an electronic pedal which means the height can be adjusted for patients to slip on and off of easily and staff at CLAN have said it has made a big difference to the service they provide.

Dr Jones recognises how important the work CLAN carry out is and often tells his patients about the Stonehaven office who offer emotional support for patients and families. Dr Jones has personally been through a similar situation himself after losing his mother to cancer and feels the work CLAN carry out is incredibly important for both families and patients.

The local CLAN office offers space for people affected by cancer to go, have a cup of tea, and sit and chat about how they feel, as well as offering different therapies and relaxation groups and access to a range of services in Aberdeen.
