Design Awards nomination deadline

The deadline for entries into the Aberdeenshire Design Awards is fast approaching and nominations should be in by Thursday, February 17.

Chairman of Aberdeenshire Council’s Infrastructure Services Committee Councillor Peter Argyle urged people to get involved and said: “The Design Awards are held in high regard by many businesses as well as trades people who put a lot of effort into designing structures that improve the quality of our built environment.

“I encourage people to get involved and think about buildings, public art and houses that are making a striking impact in our towns and nominate them now.”

Vice-chair Councillor Jill Webster added: “The awards scheme really raises the bar when it comes to design and this year I would like to see entries across every category and in particular from housing developers.

“The design awards give us a chance to celebrate all that’s good about our built environment whether it’s a conservation project that has preserved a bit of history or a new home breaking barriers in environmental design.”

The popular scheme takes place every two years and recognises good design over seven categories: Business; Conservation; Craftsmanship; Housing; Public Art; Rural Landscape Development and Sustainability.

Entries for 2012 will be judged by a panel of experts including architects, artists and councillors.

New build, regeneration, conservation, restoration, conversion and extensions may all be considered eligible for nomination for a Design Award and anyone can submit an entry as long as the building or project is located within Aberdeenshire.

Nominations forms are available for download from Aberdeenshire Council’s website at http://bit.ly/vZnBry

All eligible works must have been completed within the last two years with the exception of Rural landscape Development and Public Art which are within five years.

Winners will be announced on Thursday, September 6.
