Aberdeenshire Council has named Andrew Griffiths as its new head of education and staff development and Dr Pauline Stephen as its acting head of integration and inclusion.
The decisions were made by Aberdeenshire Council’s Appointments Committee on Monday, November 27.
Andrew, who has been fulfilling the role as acting head of service for 18 months, was previous head teacher at Mackie Academy in Stonehaven and the Gordon Schools in Huntly. He will be responsible for Aberdeenshire-wide provision of educational and staff development, learning technologies, Curriculum for Excellence and overseeing quality assurance.
In addition, Andrew takes on responsibility for services in Alford, Portlethen, Laurencekirk, Fraserburgh and Mintlaw and for the achievement of key performance targets.
Pauline moves from her role with Aberdeenshire Council as Principal Educational Psychologist to Acting Head of Integration and Inclusion while the substantive postholder is on secondment.
Pauline bring a range of experience to the role, from mainstream primary teaching to complex additional support needs in a variety of education and care settings.
She has worked in Aberdeenshire Council’s Educational Psychology Service for 11 years.
In her new role, she will have responsibility for the strategic direction and development of inclusion and integration within the service and across partner agencies, while looking at the implementation of strategies, plans and targets for equal opportunities and diversity to support the council’s objectives.
Pauline will also be responsible for the Aberdeenshire-wide service provision in special schools, as well as services in Peterhead, Huntly, Aboyne, Inverurie and Stonehaven.

Andrew has been doing a great job in the head of education and staff development role for the past 18 months and I am delighted he has secured the position on a permanent basis.
“This is a time of great change in education, not only in Aberdeenshire, but across the country. I am confident that Andrew has the skills to help safely steer schools and pupils through these changes and ensure our young people are well equipped when they go out into the wider world.”
