Forest consultation
THE Forestry Commission are currently consulting on their ten year management plan for their woodlands in the Durris area and would like to hear what local groups and individuals think of the draft plan.
The Forestry Commission are hoping to gather feedback and suggestions from locals and woodland users in relation to Durris forest, covering a total area of 2230 hectares.
Mark Reeve, Planning Forester for Moray and Aberdeenshire Forest District, said: “We are hoping to gather views relating to a wide range of topics, which can include anything from wildlife, recreation or landscape improvements.
“The main priority for these woodlands is the production of a sustainable timber crop while at the same time maximising their biodiversity potential, maintaining their existing informal recreational opportunities and continuing their positive contribution to the local landscape.
“The ten year plan includes the Forestry Commission’s proposals for felling and planting operations, and these can be viewed, along with their timescale, on the online maps.
“We hope people will tell us what they think of our proposals for managing the woodland for the next ten years. All suggestions will be taken on board and we will consider them before finalising the plan.”
The draft plan and maps of the woodland areas are available online on the Forestry Commission Scotland website at www.forestry.gov.uk/gartlyforestplan
All suggestions should be received before the end of February when a final plan will be prepared for approval.
Mr Reeve went on to say that he hoped that this format of consultation online would be successful, with the aim of reaching as many people as possible.
