P1 registration for schools in Aberdeenshire

Parents and carers of all children who reach their fifth birthday by February 28, 2014, are invited to register their child for primary one admission in August 2013.

Registration week for primary one will run from January 28 to February 1, 2013, and all parents are encouraged to visit the primary school of their choice during those days, or by the end of February at the latest.

To register for primary one, the child’s birth certificate is required as evidence of their date of birth.

Aberdeenshire Education, Learning & Leisure Service has a common starting date for all its schools in mid-August of any particular year, and parents will be informed of this year’s starting date at the time of registration at school.

Chair of Aberdeenshire Council’s Education, Learning and Leisure Committee, Councillor Isobel Davidson, said: “It is important that parents and carers register their child well in advance for primary one and the upcoming registration week is aimed at making this as easy a process as possible.

“It is also a good opportunity for parents to familiarise themselves with the school their child will be attending.”

Vice-chair of the committee, Councillor Ron McKail, added: “We look forward to welcoming the next intake of youngsters into primary education.”

No provision is made to admit any children who are five after the end of February, unless that child has previously been registered and has commenced full-time attendance (excluding induction) in a state-supported or Forces school and is transferring into Aberdeenshire.

In this case, Aberdeenshire Council can exercise discretion. Registration for a nursery or playgroup does not count for the purposes of this exception.
