Stormy weather causes a stir
WITH an amber warning for snow in place across the region, residents in the Kincardine and Mearns area expected to wake up to snow on Monday morning.
However, instead of the promised snow showers the area was battered by gale force winds of over 50 mph.
The high winds brought sleet and snow down with temperatures at around four degrees but feeling much colder owing to the arctic blast.
Conditions made for some dramatic scenes on Stonehaven beachfront as large waves crashed over the harbour walls. Right along the front the scene was one of white waves as the tumultuous sea battered the coastline.
The waves and weather caused many residents to worry that they would once again be faced with flooding similar to that seen in December when the perfect storm caused the sea to flood and caused damages to businesses and homes along the beachfront.
DRAMATIC
In Inverbervie, winds of 53mph were recorded and the dramatic weather continued into Tuesday as the winds continued to blow - this time bringing snow and blizzard conditions.
On Tuesday night into Wednesday morning the snow arrived and brought travel issues with it. Many schools in the area were left without transport and Lairhillock School was forced to close to pupils.
Grampian Police were advising that the A90 at Stonehaven and Laurencekirk was passable with care owing to blizzards and drifting snow and the Netherley road was affected by snow and ice.
On Wednesday there were long delays on the A90 Northbound following an accident at the Temple of Fiddes turn-off.
Following the two vehicle accident, a woman was cut free from her car and a man and a woman were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with “non life threatening injuries.”
The accident caused major delays.
