Dirty Dancing ignites ticket sales record

The sizzling blockbusting musical Dirty Dancing is burning up the record books at His Majesty’s Theatre in Aberdeen.

The worldwide phenomenon has already smashed the £1million mark in ticket sales TWO months before opening night on Tuesday, March 6.

It looks set to become the biggest selling show of all time at the city centre theatre as the ticket sales figure continues to rise with tickets still available across the month-long run from March 6 to 31.

“This amazing production has done incredibly well,” said Aberdeen Performing Arts (APA) chief executive Duncan Hendry.

“To have sold 28,000 tickets two months before the show even opens is quite remarkable.

“There is a huge amount of excitement about this iconic show coming to His Majesty’s and everyone here is really looking forward to welcoming the company to the theatre and to the city.”

The current ticket sales record is held by another blockbusting musical, We Will Rock You, which broke the ticket sales £1million shortly before opening in June last year.

Dirty Dancing producer Karl Sydow said: “We are absolutely thrilled that Dirty Dancing has smashed the HMT ticket sales record, after becoming the best selling show at the King’s Theatre Glasgow, proving that the wonderful Scottish audiences are truly taking our show to their hearts!

“If you haven’t already booked your tickets, don’t miss your chance as they are selling like hotcakes!”

Tickets for Dirty Dancing, which runs at His Majesty’s from Tuesday, March 6, to Saturday, March 31, are available online at www.boxofficeaberdeen.com, by phone at 01224 641122 and at Aberdeen Box Office at the Music Hall and His Majesty’s Theatre.
