Mackie Academy will, once again, be hosting another popular Jazz/Swing Evening tonight (Friday) at 8pm.
The event has been organised by Mr Iain Macdonald (Faculty Head, Mathematics) who also plays in the band. Performances include light jazz, swing, blues, with some funky pieces thrown in for good measure. There will be a guest performance from Justin Brook, who is the Aberdeenshire Instrumental Music Service Coordinator, manages the Youth Music Initiative (YMI) and is a very accomplished clarinetist and saxophonist. Justin’s wife, Carole, is a highly regarded jazz singer and will also be performing some numbers assisted by members of the band.
The 17 piece South Aberdeenshire Music Centre (SAMC) Big Band have performed on numerous occasions at Mackie Academy and consist of members from all over South Aberdeenshire.
The purpose of the evening is to help raise funds for a forthcoming school trip to Los Angeles, Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, and a dude ranch in Arizona for 50 pupils which Mr Macdonald will be leading.
Participants will be assisting on the evening and have been providing numerous contributions towards a very generous raffle. There will also be a collection taken in aid of Cystic Fibrosis.
Tickets are available from Mackie Academy (£5) and some may be available on the door. It is a “bring your own refreshments” event. Bring your dance shoes as there will be ample opportunity to take to the dance floor!
