Box Office plan weekend shut down to make way for new improved service
The city-based ticketing agency Aberdeen Box Office is to close down for four days from this Saturday in order to install a new and improved booking service.
The entire agency will shut down from 8pm on Saturday (February 16) until lunchtime the following Wednesday (February 20) to transfer to a faster up-dated service and more user-friendly website – with seat preview and print-tickets-at-home options.
And Aberdeen Performing Arts (APA) is urging customers intending to book tickets for the many hundreds of performances handled by Aberdeen Box Office – including upcoming shows at His Majesty’s Theatre, Music Hall and The Lemon Tree – not to be caught out by the shut down.
For during the transfer, it will not be possible to buy tickets from the agency online, by phone or in person.
“APA has invested in a brand-new ticketing solution to streamline ticket sales and improve the customer experience when buying tickets – both online and in person at Aberdeen Box Office,” explained APA’s systems administrator Leon Gray.
“After careful consideration, we have selected AudienceView, as it is one of the market leaders in this field with around 150 clients in 12 countries around the world, selling more than 60 million tickets every year.”
He added: “The innovative system will have a host of exciting new features. For example customers will be able to preview their view of the stage from photographs taken from seats in the auditorium. They will also be able to beat the queues by printing their tickets at home and even forward ticket links to family and friends so they can print their own tickets, too.
“Looking further ahead, we hope to use new software to enable customers to buy tickets or make reservations directly through the social-media website Facebook, and a mobile-optimised website, so they can so the same thing using their smart phones.”
Once the new system is up and running next week, customers will be able to access the new system in the usual way at www.boxofficeaberdeen.com, by phone at 01224 641122 and at the Music Hall and His Majesty’s Theatre ticket desks.
“The new AudienceView ’s innovative ticketing system will continue to support all of APA’s existing box office products and services, such as gift vouchers, memberships, priority booking, and subscriptions, offering patrons an unparalleled level of customer service,” said Leon.
Upcoming shows at His Majesty’s Theatre include the first ever tour of Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap (Feb 25 to March 2), Andrew Lloyd-Webber’s smash-hit musical Cats (March 4 to 16) and The Full Monty (March 19 to 23).
Forthcoming shows at the Music Hall include Brendan Cole: Licence to Thrill (Feb 25), Pride of Scotland (Feb 28) and Beyond the Barricade (March 3), while at The Lemon Tree there’s the hilarious Slick (Feb 22 and 23), pop-up comic Zoe Lyons (March 2), mountaineer Kenton Cool (March 8) and Noisy Night (March 9).
