Celebrate Burns Night with Woodend Barn
A Banchory arts-centre is offering a contemporary Burns Night with a traditional flavour this year, as it explores the more salacious side of our national Bard.
Woodend Barn will host an evening filled with local voices such as Stonehaven playwright and poet Russell Adams – a member of the Burns Fatherland Society - also featuring Leith balladeer Wounded Knee (Drew Wright) and artist Alastair Cook. The evening starts at 7pm on Friday, January 25. Alastair Cook’s film “Not in my name” explores the radical aspect of Burns character, linking key points in his life with political context and the poems Burns produced at those moments. His work has been shown internationally and most recently he completed solo shows at StAnza and as part of the Edinburgh Festival.
Nicola Henderson, director of Woodend Barn, said: “Attending a Burns Supper is a great way to celebrate the legacy of our national bard, and we hope our event maintains the traditional themes which make this night so popular around the world, while exploring a different side to Robert Burns character.”
As with all Burns nights, a delicious three-course meal will be offered from Buchanans Bistro, with haggis, neeps and tatties taking centre stage, and the night will finish with a lively ceilidh from Danse McCabre.
