Films at Woodend Barn

Andrei Tarkovsky’s 1974 masterpiece, Mirror – recently selected in a poll of directors as one of the top ten films of all time - is to be screened at Woodend Barn on Tuesday 13 November. The award-winning Russian director’s dream-like, autobiographical film is considered to be his most personal meditation on time, history and the Russian countryside. In a series of episodes and images, in both black and white and colour, he captures the mood and feeling of the period before, during and after the Second World War.

Woodend Barn’s season of films continues on 28 November with a screening of Disney Pixar’s Brave. Featuring the vocal talents of a host of leading Scottish actors, including Kelly Macdonald, Billy Connolly and a Doric-speaking Kevin McKidd, the computer animation is set in the Scottish Highlands and tells the story of young princess Merida, who must confront tradition, destiny and the fiercest of beasts.

A mini-season of festive films begins on 11 and 12 December, with a screening of perennial Christmas favourite It’s a Wonderful Life and Samuel Goldwyn’s romantic comedy The Bishop’s Wife, starring Cary Grant as an angel who helps a bishop with his yuletide problems.

The festive film season continues on 19 and 20 December with classic ‘80s action film Die Hard, and the hilarious Christmas fable Elf, starring Will Ferrell as one of Santa’s elves who heads to New York in search of his father after discovering he is human.

Tickets are available online at www.woodendbarn.co.uk or by phoning the box office on 01330 825431. All films commence at 7.30pm. Joint ticket deals for festive films are available.
