Sold out jazz night at Mackie Academy is a swinging success

A CAPACITY audience enjoyed an evening of live music at Mackie Academy last Friday evening. South Aberdeenshire Music Centre (SAMC) Big Band performed classics by Glen Miller, Quincy Jones, The Average White Band, Blues Brothers and much more. Academy teacher Miss Joanne Smith accompanied the Band when she sang the classics Forty Second Street and Lady Marmalade.

The successful evening has raised funds which will go towards Cystic fibrosis Trust, Snowsports trip to Colorado (Easter 2013) and Wild West Trip (October 2014). Mackie Academy pupils who are participating in the school adventures played a full part in ensuring the success of the evening as they assisted in converting a school assembly hall into a jazz/cabaret club. They also ensured that the dance floor was suitably filled!!

Mr Iain Macdonald who organised the event passed on his gratitude to all parents, carers, pupils and staff for all their continued support towards the huge success of the evening through attendance, raffle donations, ticket sales etc. Thanks were also passed to the SAMC Big Band (conducted by Mr Fabrizio Oddo) who are no strangers to taking centre stage at a Mackie Academy Jazz/Swing Evening.

Pupils now look forward to departing for the long-haul flight in 2 months time where Mr Macdonald will lead a Snowsports trip to Winter Park resort in Denver, Colorado. They will accompanied by Mrs Sue Smith (Faculty Head of Modern Languages) and Mr Mike Smith.
