Stage is set for a swinging night at Mackie Academy

Mackie Academy is set to be turned into a jazz club for the evening.

The popular Mackie Jazz and Swing Night is to return on Friday, February 1, and promises to be another swinging evening at the Stonehaven school.

The 17-piece South Aberdeenshire Music Centre (SAMC) Big Band will provide live musical entertainment to a packed venue.

Event organiser is Iain Macdonald, faculty head of the Academy’s mathematics department, and its purpose is to raise funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and also two school trips.

A fun-filled night is promised as Mackie Academy Assembly Hall will be transformed into a jazz club for the evening.

Ticket holders are welcome to bring their own refreshments and are advised to take along their dancing shoes.

POISED

Academy students are poised to provide assistance during the evening and have been collecting prizes for raffle including two diamond pendants (valued at up to £750), an ipad mini, 32 Gb ipod, luxury hampers and much, much more.

SAMC Big Band, conducted by Mr Fabrizio Oddo, have performed on numerous occasions at the Academy.

The band’s drummer, Ross Hodgkinson, is the winner of the Young Scottish Jazz Musician of the Year 2012 and will continue to contribute to a strong and talented rhythm section. They will be performing a range of well-known pieces by Duke Ellington, Quincy Jones, Stevie Wonder, Blues Brothers with some funk by The Average White Band thrown in for good measure.

The event starts at 8pm.
