Laurencekirk Scout Group’s hut refurbishment fund has received a considerable cash injection from generous customers at the town’s Scotmid.
Beavers, Cubs and Scouts spent all day Saturday packing bags and encouraging shoppers to guess the weight of a cake donated by Goodfellow & Steven. As the £855.85 raised is eligible for the new Gift Aid Small Donations Scheme, the total value to the group will be over £1000.
After picking up his cake, winner Victor Bennett was planning to share the 2165g prize with family and neighbours. He has fond memories of his own time in Scouting, which included a week spent under canvas at a jamboree.
Group chairperson Avril Nicoll said, “Scotmid staff and customers have consistently supported young people in our Beavers, Cubs and Scouts. We are very grateful to them and to Goodfellow & Steven for this fantastic opportunity to get out in the community and raise much-needed funds, which will extend the life of our hut for another 25 years.”
The staged refurbishment of the hut began with repairing and painting the external timbers, while phase two saw it re-roofed. Work on phase three starts on Monday and will comprise complete rewiring along with new heating, insulation and ventilation in the main hall area. www.laurencekirkscouts.org.uk & www.facebook.com/pages/Laurencekirk-Scout-Group.
