AFTER the official opening of the previous week, it was time for Laurencekirk to hold its own community celebrations over the weekend to mark the reopening of Laurencekirk railway station.

On Saturday morning, the celebrations began at the station when there were speeches from Jim Brown, Norman Banski and Sir Fred Holliday.

The new station was blessed by ministers Ronnie Gall and Michael Turner.

The City of Brechin Pipe Band led a march of 20 local organisations from the station to Mearns Academy.

At the academy, 42 organisations took part in a Community Fair.

A crowd of 2,000 attended and there was entertainment from local bands, dancers and much more.
