THOUSANDS turned out at the weekend as the Fettercairn Show took place for the first time in two years.

Last year's show had to be cancelled for health and safety reasons as heavy rain made the venue too wet.

But rain stayed away for the event this year, leaving visitors to enjoy the many activities on offer.

Fettercairn Farmers' Club secretary Lennox Hair said that estimated attendance for the day was around 3,500.

She said: "It has been a good turnout. You've got to have good weather so that people are happy to spend their time outdoors. The weather actually suited the livestock fine."

There were around 200 horses, 200 sheep and 100 cattle entered into the agricultural competition, and over 40 trade stands and 20 craft tables.

Attractions included chainsaw carving, sheep shearing demonstrations, sumo wrestling and pillow fighting. There were also two new children's competitions on the programme, and clay pigeon shooting took place in a nearby field.

Overall champion in the cattle section was Reidhall Farms from Brechin with the yearling heifer showing no teeth and the reserve went to Lord and Lady Glendyne from Forfar with Hurdcott Emblem from sire Lorabar Roshan.

In the sheep competition overall champion was awarded to a Charollais ewe from Ian and Frieda Brownlie from Fyvie. The reserve was Wendy Willox from Inverurie with a Texel ewe.

Overall champion in the horse classes was Mrs Susan Scott with Tullibardine My Fare Lady and the reserve was K. Lawson and W. Sinclair with Lochlands Madonna.
