Kincardine and Deeside Befrienders

Could you make a Difference to an older person in Bervie?

Kincardine and Deeside Befriending are urgently needing more volunteers to help them to cope with the growing demand for befrienders for older people in Inverbervie and surrounding areas.

Befrienders are matched with an older person who is lonely and isolated. They visit them for a cup of tea or coffee or to take them out; usually for a couple of hours in the afternoon every week or fortnight.

The Organisation will be running a training course for new volunteers on Saturday 5th September. Many people like Mary (pictured) are socially isolated and enjoy the company of a befriender.

Anyone who is over 18 is welcome to apply. Having a car to take an older person out would be an advantage. K&D Befriending will provide expenses and support. For more information and an application pack, visit www.kdbefriending.org.uk or call 01569 765714.

Brighter Bervie

Thursday 20 & Friday 21 August were action packed days in the Voyage of Life community garden as the Beechgrove Garden TV team filmed and recorded the transformation of our site with all the beautiful planting and installation of interesting features. We now look forward to seeing these activities on screen on Thu 3rd Sep when the creation of the garden will be featured in the popular Beechgrove Garden TV programme that evening with presenters Carole Baxter and George Anderson.

Sincere thanks are due to the many volunteers who worked tirelessly on the ground and behind the scenes to achieve such a wonderful result, to those local businesses who generously provided materials and tradesmen and to our helpful nursery suppliers for delivering healthy plants on time.

The garden, which is tucked-away behind Bervie Church Centre on King Street, provides a peaceful haven for all who visit it right in the heart of our Burgh. Come along yourself and bring friends and family with you to see the bright displays of plants and maritime features - there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

After the rush to prepare for the arrival of the TV cameras we still have work to do for finishing-off the garden. So please come and join our cheery band of volunteers carrying-out these tasks. Regular work sessions take place every Tue & Thu at 19.00h and on Saturdays at 09.00-12.00h. Be part of it with us - that’s how we can build a more vibrant community.

Volunteers don’t have to become leaders to help out and you don’t have to come each week to meetings but may want to help out once or twice a month.

You may have a skill that may help us out, perhaps you are good at admin or keeping finances?

If you are interested in helping out then please go to www.girlguiding.org.uk to find out more and register your interest.
