The Arbuthnott Advent Sale was held in Arbuthnott Hall on November 25 and 26. This year the sale raised funds to help a young man in Malawi.

Richard and Hilary Firth had met Steven Maguza two years ago in Mulanje, when they were on a work trip to Malawi and kept in contact with him. He has two younger brothers and they have been orphans for many years.

In October the Firths received an e-mail from him, explaining that he had a bad infection in one eye and he would need an operation to prevent him from eventually going totally blind.

The organisers usually give the proceeds of the Arbuthnott sale to a charity, so decided to help Steven this year. They put up information about Steven during the sale and managed to make their target.

The money was sent to a clinic in Malawi and they have heard back from them that the operation has been successful and that Steven has now returned home. He will only need to attend his local hospital as an out patient from now on.

once all the expenses have been covered, a little bit of surplus money will be donated to Cancer Research.
