Local man Allan Dickson is to take on a 100-mile cycle ride in August to raise money for a charity that is close to his heart.
Allan Dickson, originally from Montrose and now living in the Mearns between Luthermuir and Fettercairn, will take on the Prudential Ride London on August 10.
The 48-year-old will be raising funds for the Soldiers Sailors Airman Families Association (SSAFA).
Allan told the Leader and Observer how he had completed smaller bike rides in the past but nothing this big
He said: “ I was in the armed forces and they do such a worthwhile job helping families of serving and ex forces personnel.
“I am looking to raise at least £700 for them and aim to cover the 100 miles in under five-and-a-half hours.
“I did six-and-a-half years in the RAF as a telecoms technician and was fortunate enough not to have been sent to a war zone, but my brother - who was in the army - was sent to war zones on several occasions and saw several colleagues injured.
“This is why I’m raising funds for SSAFA, the Solders Sailors Airmen Families Association. A few years ago I raised £500 for Fettercairn Primary.”
The charity helps ex forces personal and their families, many of whom have lsot limbs and their lives serving their country.
