Visitors to Glenesk have the opportunity to take part in Angus Arts’ fourth BIG adventure ‘Lighter Than Air’ on Sunday, August 11.

Be Inspired in Glenesk (BIG) offer people the chance to get involved in fabulous outdoor arts adventures once a month throughout the summer.

“This adventure is all about the wind,” explained Sue Waddicor, administrator for Angus Arts.

“After meeting up at The Retreat in Glenesk we will go on a very short walk to the perfect spot to draw and make things that fly and flutter.

“We might make kites, windmills, flags or anything else that benefits from a bit of a breeze.

“Our participants are always an imaginative bunch and constantly surprise us with their inventions!

“We like to encourage people of all ages and abilities to join us and it’s great when a whole family joins in.

“The workshop will be led by Virginia Aspinwall and Maria MacDonell, who both have lots of experience of this kind of thing, and we can guarantee it will be fun - as one mother and child, who were new to the project said in an e-mail to us after our last event in July: ‘It was the most fantastic day, upon returning home just now Will exclaimed “That was the best day ever”! … You’re all so inspiring.”’

“People need to be at the Retreat at 11 a.m. and bring a packed lunch, or one can be ordered in advance from the Retreat.”

Due to the popularity of the event it is important to book in advance and to be prepared for all weathers.

‘Lighter Than Air’ will take place on Sunday, August 11, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with participants invited to meet up at The Retreat Visitor Centre in Glenesk before being taken elsewhere.

The event is suitable for all ages and costs £8.

Under-eights must be accompanied, but adults are welcome to attend without children. A family discount is available.

There are two further BIG adventures, all of which are made possible by funding from the Angus Council Community Grant Scheme. They are: Sunday, September 8: ‘Dens, Nests and Mysterious Marvels’ from 2 to 4.30 p.m.: and Sunday, October 6: ‘The Biggest Picture of All. Grand Finale’ from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
