Around twenty members of the Laurencekirk Business Club attended the first meeting of 2012.
The venue was Mearns Academy and there was an energy and feeling of enthusiasm within the group members.
Elizabeth Havens (Elizabeth Havens Fashion/Jewellery) chaired the meeting while Lynn Jones, (Dizzy Rascals) took the minutes and there was lot of discussion establishing the agenda for the year and planning future social events and fundraisers.
The main event this year will be the celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the LBC had positive discussions with Liz Carnie (Powerwasher Services) and Caroline Godsman (Tower Garage) from the Ladies Social Club, regarding the benefits of joining forces with them to plan a dance to celebrate this special occasion.
There was also a suggestion that the two clubs might unite to share responsibility for the Christmas tree lights and hanging baskets, previously been organised by the Ladies Club.
The meeting sought to appoint a secretary and Lynn Moir (Mearns Webb) and Donna Allan (Impact Imaging) were appointed to share the role.
There is a list of events and seminars planned, some of them provisional and these include: Tuesday February 28 7pm-9pm Community Centre, Lynn Moir will discuss the advantages of promoting your business through Facebook.
Tuesday March 27 7-9pm Community Centre, Erica Wallace ‘Top Tips for Small Businesses’.
Tuesday April 24 7-9 pm Community Centre, Rob Broad, Financial Adviser.
Friday May 25 7–Late, Dickson Hall, Cheese/Wine Networking evening.
Saturday June 2, Diamond Jubilee Dance, St Laurence Hall.
Friday June 22 BBQ at Dizzies.
it was suggested that a sub committee should be formed to organise all the social events, the members of which has still to be decided.
New members are welcome to join the LBC. It is a great way of exchanging ideas and discussing matters of mutual interest and concerns with other local businesses. The club meets locally once a month.
Other possible future events include a Pamper/Spa day and there are also plans to reestablish a Laurencekirk firework display.
