A new direct community service linking the coastal town of Inverbervie to Laurencekirk is being launched on Monday March 5 by the Mearns Area Partnership and the project Mearns Community Transport.
The minibus service will carry up to 11 passengers on a 25 minute journey starting in Market Square, Inverbervie and stopping en route through Arbuthnott and Fordoun and ending in Laurencekirk with stops at the Railway Station and the Masonic Hall.
This route has been identified following community engagement which took place in both 2010 and 2011 as part of the Aberdeenshire Councils Regeneration Priority Area initiatives held in the Inverbervie area. Seventy eight per cent of those surveyed identified the link route as something they would like to see developed.
The pilot will run on a Monday and Thursday offering three trips in either direction and creating a link with some of the day time train services arriving at Laurencekirk Station.
It is hoped the trial service will be used by the community who may find it useful for visiting friends and relations in the two townships as well as shopping visits or health appointments. The service will also call at the Laurencekirk railway station where it will connect with several train services between 1030 and 1430.
The service costs just £2 per trip in any direction and concession card holders are free.
