stonehaven Community Centre held a Strawberry Tea as a “thank you” to their volunteers.
The Tea provided guests with delicious scones, cream and ice-cream to go with the strawberries. The Centre has more than 30 people who give up their time to help the community in various ways, such as providing literacy tuition and helping deliver drug awareness courses.
Area manager William Munro said: “These people have a wide range of skills and experience, and it is important that we do not take for granted what they do and that we make them feel appreciated.”
Lucy Gourlay, 17, is doing a Youth Acheivement Award, and other young volunteers act as peer support for younger children.
Community Learning Development leader Claire Thomson said: “The volunteers help build the community capacity. A wide range of projects and help would not be available without the volunteers.”
Councillor Peter Bellarby said the volunteers make a “tremendous difference” to the lives of those using the centre as well as the staff.
