A new supermarket, primary school and community facilities could be in the pipeline for Stonehaven , after developers submitted plans to develop Braehead on the town’s southern outskirts.
Bancon Developments and The Dunnottar Trust this week announced that they have submitted Proposal of Application Notices to Aberdeenshire Council, outlining plans for development to the south and west of the existing Braehead housing estate.
Land immediately to the south of Braehead, which is already zoned for development, would have a 4200sqm supermarket incorporating a car park and filling station.
It is thought the store would generate 150-200 jobs. The primary school would accommodate 325 pupils, and could extend to a 500-pupil capacity.
The playing fields would extend to 11.5 hectares, for multi-purpose pitches and training facilities.
A separate proposal, for land between the A92 and the B957, seeks consent in principle to extend the previously approved Mearns Business Park. The developers believe the business park will have the capacity to create 1000 new jobs for Stonehaven.
However, some residents fear that further development at the site could exacerbate flooding lower down in the town.
The notices are the first step in the application process, and a public exhibition is planned with details to be announced in due course.
