The Mearns community is still in a state of shock following the death of a popular 20-year-old Laurencekirk girl in an accident on the A90.
Charlotte Louise Tennant died in the early hours of Saturday. it is believed she was struck by a vehicle as she walked home from a night out in Fordoun.
Charlotte’s distraught family issued a statement through the police asking for possible witnesses to come forward.
“Charlotte was a big part of our family and she will very much remain so in our hearts and thoughts.
“We as a family would ask those people who were travelling on the A90 road between Laurencekirk and Fordoun between 4 and 5 am on Saturday to come forward and assist the police with their enquiries.
“We would like to express our thanks to all those friends, work colleagues and family members who have been in contact with us expressing words of comfort and support at this difficult time.”
Detective Chief Inspector Alex Dowall, who is leading the investigation into the incident, said: “We are continuing our investigation and have a dedicated team of 30 officers working to piece together the circumstances surrounding Charlotte’s death.
“So far, more than 10 people have come forward who were in that area of the A90 on Saturday morning. Despite the good response, I would like to reissue an appeal for anyone who was on this stretch of road in the between 4 and 5 am to come forward, particularly any Heavy Goods Vehicles who used the route.
“Even if you did not see Charlotte, or don’t think you saw anything of significance, you may still hold vital information that could help us find out what happened and I would urge you to come forward immediately.
“Charlotte was wearing dark jeans, a white t-shirt, a light blue denim shirt and white trainers and anyone with information can contact us on 0845 600 5700.”
Charlotte’s body was discovered at around 8am. The road was was immediately closed in both directions and remained closed until 5.30pm to allow investigations to take place.
Charlotte, who lived in Johnston Street, worked as a care worker at Burnside Nursing Home in Laurencekirk and hundreds of expressions of sympathy were left on social networking site Facebook.
Charlotte was with a group of friends in the Redhall Arms in Fordoun on Friday evening, both before and after attending a comedy night in the village hall. She is then understood to have gone to a friend’s house before deciding to walk the four miles home.
