Stonehaven and District Community Council is considering setting up a contact database for the town.
The man behind the idea is member Alan Sutherland who was not present at last week’s meeting, but fellow member Andrew Newton outlined the idea behind the scheme.
“People want to know what is going on and who to complain to, They might be sent a couple of emails per month, but it is a way of drawing the community in.”
He said Mr Sutherland was looking for permission to start the process.
Member Rachel Shanks said if the community council was involved in a scheme like this it would have to register for data protection and there was the question of security of emails. She said it might be easier to have a Facebook or Twitter account where people opted in.
Members agreed with chairman Michael Innes that Mr Sutherland should bring his proposals to the next meeting.
