Flood defences rebuilt

Offenders have helped to rebuild flooding defences in Stonehaven.

Criminals, who were ordered to undertake unpaid work as part of their punishment, have helped restore a supporting wall on the River Carron. The wall was swept away in the November 2009 flooding and prevents water spilling into residents’ gardens during high flows

Scottish Flood Forum Director Paul Hendy helped provide advice and support in the town following the November flooding. He said: “The importance to the community of this local defence cannot be underestimated. Not only will it assist homes and business premises from possible future flooding, but also bringimmeasurable reduction in fear and anxiety to local people every time heavy rain affects Stonehaven.”

Offenders are available to help charitable or non-profit making organisation who need assistance with community projects. For more information phone Gillian Christie on 01569 768338
