Laurencekirk Beavers, Cubs and Scouts enjoyed a rare evening of sunshine for their end of term group sponsored Denlethen Challenge and sausage sizzle.
The brainchild of Mearns fitness instructor and Scout parent Jacquie Donoghue, the fun event encouraged small teams to use map reading skills to locate a series of number clues in the woods. Winning teams from each section received a small Scout Association memento.
Cub Pack Assistant Bruce Cowie donned his BBQ apron to prepare the sausages and burgers which had been bought with generous assistance from Scotmid.
The occasion also saw the group say goodbye and a big thank you to Beaver Section Leader Peter Buxton for his efforts over the past year.
Parents commented on his kindness and the work he put into preparing a variety of badge-related activities and fun events.
Group chairman Avril Nicoll said: “We had a fantastic turnout of over 50 boys from all the sections. With just under half of the sponsorship money in, we have already raised £400 for our hall refurbishment fund.
“I would like to thank Jacquie and Craig Donoghue for organising and supervising the event, Bruce Cowie and his team for doing the catering, and Scotmid for their gift of vouchers.
“Laurencekirk Medical Centre generously allowed us to use their car park, and parents got into the spirit as marshals and helpers. In addition, we were pleased to be joined by Mearns Explorer Scouts to supervise the Cubs.”
