SNP North East MSP Nigel Don played host to schools across Scotland as they attended the Eco-schools conference in the Scottish Parliament on January 28.
At the conference the school pupils engaged in a seminar and workshops, and grilled a panel, including Mr Don, on the topic of sustainable food.
Mearns Academy, who have achieved the Eco-schools’ highest accolade - the green flag, were in attendance.
Commenting after the conference Nigel Don said: “I was delighted to be able to host a number of schools, including Mearns Academy from my area, at the Eco-schools conference.
“It is fantastic that young people are taking such a keen interest in trying to create a sustainable future for Scotland. Mearns is one of the select band of schools who have achieved the green flag, which is no mean feat and underlines their commitment.
“It is from our schools that the leaders of the future, be that politically, academically or industrially, will emerge. With such commitment being demonstrated by the young people who attended the conference, it gives a great deal of encouragement that the future will be in safe hands.”
