Eco flag celebrations

Banchory-Devenick Primary School has received the international Eco-Schools Green Flag award for its environmental work.

The Eco-Schools initiative is designed to encourage whole-school action on sustainable development education issues. The Aberdeenshire school, which has 51 pupils, celebrated by raising its new eco flag with pupils, teachers, parents and the local community.

To receive its Green Flag status the school established an Eco-Committee and completed an environmental review covering the nine Eco-Schools topics.

A detailed action plan and green procurement policy were created and sustainability was covered in at least three curriculum areas. The school developed its own eco-code with the motto “Good to be Green” and involved the whole school and wider community in its Eco-Schools activities.

Pupil, Hasse Verheyde, Eco Captain said: “I am very happy about us getting the Green Flag and I knew we could do it.”
