Drum roll for the winner

A 6th year Mackie Academy pupil has won the title of Young Jazz Musician of the Year 2012. Seventeen year old Ross Hodgkinson drummed his way to the final earlier this month.

He gave a display of his musical talent at Queens Hall, Edinburgh, where he was announced the 17 and under winner. As well as a trophy, his prizes include a music lesson from Professor Tommy Smith, Head of Jazz at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, a music lesson from jazz musician Richard Michael and also a scholarship from Glasgow Jazz Festival Summer School.
