An Open Morning and school presentation took place at Lathallan School, Johnshaven, on July 6 to which everyone was invited.

A music concert showcased the skills and abilities of the pupils across a range of instruments.

Senior School prizes were predominately academic in focus with subject prizes as well as those for Dux of year.

Junior Seven was awarded some subject prizes while other classes were awarded on ability and effort across subject disciplines. Sports, performing arts, creative arts, pipes and drums and general school prizes were presented at different levels throughout the school.

A school spokesperson said: ‘‘The school is proud of the efforts and achievements of all our pupils.

‘‘As well as comments from our chairman, Sir Graeme Catto, the school had the pleasure of introducing the guest speaker, Robin Harper.

‘‘Robin was,until recently, an MSP and leader of the Scottish Green Party.

‘‘He is a former teacher, rector of Edinburgh and Aberdeen Universities and has taken a keen interest in education throughout his life and particularly on issues relating to the environment.

‘‘He spoke with great passion about our need to play our part in the environment and was extremely impressed with the grounds at Lathallan School.

‘‘To close the academic year, the traditional march past of the Lathallan School Pipe Band took place.

The handover of responsibility involved the positions of pipe major and pipe sergeant.

Lathallan is an independent all-through co-educational school.

It has class sizes, on average, of 12 pupils. A personal tutor system is set in place.
