A TEAM of whizzkids from Newtonhill have triumphed in the Aberdeenshire final of Euroquiz 2011.
The P6 pupils took on 16 other schools from across the region earlier this month at the Lochter Activity Centre in Old Meldrum, and beat off the competition to win the Glass Star Trophy.
The Scottish European Educational Trust (SEET), which aims to promote and encourage education about Europe to students at schools, colleges and universities throughout Scotland, has been running the quiz since 1993.
National organiser Barbara MacLeod said she was very impressed by the performance of the Newtonhill team who will now go on to represent Aberdeenshire in the national finals, held at the Scottish Parliament in June.
Mike Russel MSP, cabinet secretary for education and lifelong learning, said: “The Euroquiz is a wonderful way to learn about Europe and its rich history. It opens minds to other cultures and other ways of thinking which is of huge benefit in our multicultural society.
“Euroquiz fits well with our Scottish Curriculum for Excellence.”
