Portlethen Railway Station is to benefit from an extra peak-time stop from December, ScotRail have confirmed.
Currently, there are departures to Portlethen from Aberdeen at 16.37, 17.18 and 18.30. Starting from December 15, there will be an additional departure at 17.48.
Maureen Watt MSP welcomed the news.
At present, there is over an hour evening peak gap, with trains stopping in Portlethen departing Aberdeen, between 17.18 and then 18.30.
Ms Watt said: “This timetable change is excellent news which will provide greater flexibility for those wishing to travel to Portlethen at evening peak-time.
‘‘We are all well aware of congestion on the roads, as workers clock off at 5, and this move by ScotRail will hopefully encourage many of these commuters on to public transport.”
A ticket machine was recently installed at Portlethen.
