Plans have been lodged with Aberdeenshire Council for the first phase of the Conveth Mains development at Laurencekirk.

Kirkwood Homes Ltd submitted the plans for 310 houses last Friday. The application represents the first phase of development at Conveth Mains, a 278 acre site that is zoned for a mixed use development including 885 homes and 27 hectares of employment land.

A development framework and masterplan were unanimously approved for Conveth Mains by Aberdeenshire Council’s Kincardine and Mearns Area Committee at the end of 2013.

Commenting on the application, Allan Rae, land director at Kirkwood Homes Ltd, said: “After over four years of consultation with the local community and other stakeholders, Kirkwood Homes are pleased to have finally submitted an application for the first phase of development at Conveth Mains.

‘‘A substantial amount of work and careful consideration has gone into producing the proposals. We firmly believe that the proposal not only fully conforms with the principals of both the Development Framework and Masterplan that was agreed for the site by Aberdeenshire Council last year but, importantly, will kick-start the long term sustainable and planned expansion of the town.”

“It has been important to Kirkwood Homes from the outset to ensure that the local community and all stakeholders had a real opportunity to input and importantly shape the future expansion of their town via the Conveth Mains site.

‘‘I would therefore like to take this opportunity to once again thank all those parties for their input, and we look forward to continuing to work in tandem with the community as the application progresses”.
