Fettercairn flood protection measures are set to take another step forward with a start early in the new year.
Aberdeenshire Council officers agreed a January 9 start date with contractors, Delson for works on the Haugh Field flood storage project as agreed by the Kincardine and Mearns area committee.
The news was welcomed by local councillor and Aberdeenshire Provost, Bill Howatson. “Clearly at this time of year, weather conditions can vary, but I am sure that progress on this long-awaited scheme will be welcomed. Residents in Fettercairn have been both supportive and patient in relation to this project and that is to be appreciated.
“The scheme will not at a stroke end flooding risk in Fettercairn but it is an important step in the right direction to deal with a pressing issue.”
Planting to soften the appearance of the bund will be incorporated when the works are nearing completion in agreement with council environment planners and the estate.
