Those attending were treated to a wide range of entertainments, stalls and activities, and many commented that there was a real sense of community at the gala, which was held in and around Portlethen Academy.

The event was opened by a performance from Newtonhill Pipe Band, with entertainment also provided by dancers, singers, dog shows, cake competitions and a wrestling show which captured the attention of a
large crowd.

Commenting on the Portlethen Gala facebook page, Mel Sullivan said: “Thank you to everyone who came along to our Gala on Saturday. I’m looking forward to seeing how much we all raised!

She also appealed for volunteers to help share the workload of organisng the gala for next year. She said: “By the end of the Gala this year, everyone was worn out from a day of hard work - some more
fresh helpers for the clear up would really have been
appreciated.”
