Three local ladies have teamed together to plan an afternoon of glitz, glamour, fizz, fashion and fancy hair to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Cath Ferrier from Newtonhill and Carol Kennedy and Lesley Darnell both from Portlethen are organising a fund-raising Ladies Lunch on Sunday 18 November at the Mercure Ardoe House Hotel to raise funds for the type 1 diabetes charity.
There’ll be a fashion show by the glamorous Aberdeen dress shop “Frox” and from independent retailer “It’s Darling” as well as a hair display by John at Dare, afternoon tea and a glass of bubbly.
The three ladies work together at Aker Solutions in Portlethen and after working with the JDRF Ball Committee last year, Cath was approached by JDRF and asked if she would like to organise a Ladies Lunch fund-raiser. Cath and her two keen colleagues began planning and the event soon took off.
It’s not the first time the ladies have been involved with JRDF. Aker Solutions in Portlethen have been involved with the charity for over six years and have helped raise over £14,000 for the cause. Cath, Carol and Lesley all said they got immersed in the cause once they started listening to the families affected by the condition and said it’s heartbreaking when you hear what a child living with Type 1 diabetes has to go through every single day. As the ladies are all mothers themselves, they put themselves in the parents’ shoes and described the condition as a “lifelong worry” for parents or as Lesley mentioned: “These children have to live with this every single day of their lives, some of them from only being a few months old. They don’t get a rest, they don’t get Christmas off, they don’t get holidays from it and they don’t grow out of it. The parents also have to be on the ball constantly and monitor everything they eat or drink. It’s hard to even imagine.”
There will also be many stalls at the event selling gifts, handbags, jewellery etc and there are still some available to hold at the cost of £25. The event runs from 1-4pm.
