A new group which has been set up in Stonehaven in time for the new year is telling local people to go take a hike - literally!
Stonehaven Walkers are looking for new members who fancy going for a nice long walk on a regular basis.
A spokesperson for the group said this week: ‘‘If you don’t have anyone to walk with, don’t really want to walk alone and you’re not sure where to go then Stonehaven Walkers is for you.
‘‘We meet every Wednesday at 9am outside Stonehaven Community Centre in Bath Street, at the front entrance, and normally finish around 12.30pm.
‘‘The walks are not too strenuous and you could be out in the fresh air, whatever the weather.
‘‘It could be part of your new health regime for 2014, and is a good way to make new friends and get fitter.’’
The walks are around five to six miles long, mostly low level, with the occasional gentle incline and are led by an experienced walk leader.
All you need are some sturdy shoes or boots, and suitabe clothing.
The spokesperson added: ‘‘Please bring a flask and a snack as we stop for a break during the walk, for which there is no cost.’’
Next walk will be on January 8, 2014.
