Kincardineshire Federation hosted the 2013 national final of the WRI ‘Matter of Opinion’ competition in Stonehaven Town Hall.
Hazel Robson, federation chair, welcomed a large turnout of members from far and wide last Saturday.
She then welcomed and introduced Isobel Robertson, the national chair, Christine Hutton, senior vice-chair and convenor of the education and international committee, Agnes Clark, junior vice chair, judge Brian Majoribanks and timekeeper Shona Barclay.
The teams taking part were two from Angus, Aberdeenshire, Stirling, Clackmannan and west Perth, Perth and Kinross and Kincardinshire.
Christine Hutton introduced the teams as they took their turn to’ give their opinions.’
It was a good afternoon’s entertainment with many topics well covered.
The packed hall was silent during this, with many laughing as the teams gave their serious and amusing opinions on the many different topics.
After a much needed and enjoyable cup of tea and home bakes, the results were announced.
The winning team who received the Golden Jubilee Cup was Cairnbanno WRI from Aberdeenshire Federation. Chair, Kathleen Suanson, and team members Carol Eddie, Maretta Chalmers and Carolyn Maniukiewicz accepted the trophy.
In second place and receiving the Kennedy Shield were Dull and District WRI from Perth and Kinross. Chair Morag Kennedy and team members Christine Thomson, Bridget Black and Elizabeth Bruce accepted the shield.
In third place were Marykirk WRI with chair Marian Finlayson and team members Marjorie Stewart, Marie Johnston and Annie Roberts.
There were also awards for best chair which was awarded to Marian Finlayson from Marykirk WRI, and an award for best panel member who was Carolyn Maniukiewicz, from Cairnbanno WRI.
Isobel Robertson proposed thanks to all who helped in any way for the warm welcome they had received, and to the ladies from Kincardineshire for all their hard work.
