Jubilee House Holiday home is looking forward to another year and season as one of Stonehaven’s longest established charities.
Located on Keith Place, Stonehaven beside the Harbour, the charity provides facilities to groups and families with special needs.
Run by Kincardineshire Silver Jubilee Trust which was set up following HM The Queen’s Silver Jubilee in 1977, when funds were raised throughout the County of Kincardine with a view to creating a holiday home.
Kincardineshire Silver Jubilee Trust is chaired by the Lord Lieutenant, Mrs. Carol Kinghorn.
The House opened in 1981 and for 33 years has quietly gone about its business of providing holiday accommodation for 10 people in 5 bedrooms.
Chairman of the Management Committee is local Solicitor, Gordon Ritchie, who said: “A hard working local committee of volunteers ensure that Jubilee House is open and ready each year to welcome hundreds of visitors who come to enjoy a holiday in Stonehaven.
“We try to keep the House up to date and with our own fundraising and grants from the MacRobert Trust of Douneside, Tarland and the Gannochy Trust of Perth, we carried out major improvements to the House last year.”
Jubilee House is open from April to October each year and groups that use it include VSA Aberdeen, Camphill Schools, Garvald of West Linton and a group from Murnau, Germany who come every September for 2 weeks.
Mr. Ritchie added: “It is surprising the number of people in Stonehaven who may not have heard of Jubilee House and if they have, they still do not know where it is located. Keith Place is the street on the left at the end of the High Street, just before you reach the Shorehead and Jubilee House is next to the Boardwalk along the Beach. We are always looking for volunteers to help us, and before the start of the 2014 Season,
“I am appealing to anyone who can spare a few hours every 2 or 3 weeks during the summer months to come forward.
“The duties do not include cleaning the House but checking that the House is ready for new visitors, greeting and welcoming them, to make sure that they enjoy their time in Stonehaven.”
