A local fitness class has raised more than £1,000 for World Autism day thanks to fitness fanatics across the Mearns.

VerVe Fit, which has classes in Stonehaven and Laurencekirk, offered back-to-back blasts of their classes over 90 minutes for a donation of £5 for the National Autistic Society. The group managed to raise £285 on the charity night on March 29 at Mearns Academy.

VerVe Fit also raised £350 through a JustGiving page and another £500 from family and friends who couldn’t make the fundraising evening.

Susan and Diane set up VerVe Fit in January 2016 because there were very little classes in the area to choose from and they enjoy to keep healthy and strong. Both went on to study and pass Level 2 instructorship, also training in specifics like Kettlercise, Insanity and PiYo. Classes have gone from strength to strength-running in Laurencekirk and Stonehaven.

VerVe Fit posted on Facebook: “What an amazing night we had last night.

“People came and went, others blasted through all six workouts. Thanks again for supporting Autism Awareness-you’re all stars

“Also thanks to everyone who donated their cash-who couldn’t make the event- the staff at Aberdeenshire Leisure and Alan Wood the Archer for help beforehand.”
