From March 12 a late night bus service will be running from Aberdeen to Stonehaven.
The service will run Monday to Saturday and will leave Union Square every hour from 00:40am to 2:40am.
The bus will make a number of stops in Portlethen and Newtonhill. Fares will be; Aberdeen as far as and including Portlethen- £5.00 Aberdeen to Newtonhill / Stonehaven -£7.00.
Councillor Graeme Clark, who is the SNP transport spokesman for Aberdeenshire, has welcomed the news. He said: “I have been lobbying for some time to have a “Nightbird” service out of Aberdeen to the south.
“Other communities to the north and west of the city have had an early morning bus at weekends and I know that previous buses to Portlethen and Stonehaven were withdrawn after some passenger trouble.
“Travel home by public transport, after concerts or visits to clubs has not been possible and I would encourage residents to consider using this service.”
