Laurencekirk Scouts are facing a crisis after a lack of members left them unable to create an executive committee at their AGM this month.

If the group cannot form an executive committee following an EGM scheduled to take place on November 13, then all section activities will be suspended.

The group currently has around 60 children who attend the groups and take part in activities throughout the year - and they have a camp planned for December.

As a minimum, the group needs a chairman, secretary and treasurer, plus two parents from each section of Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.

Committee members do not have to have any previous connection with the group or have children attending.

In a letter posted to the group’s website following the AGM, it says that if no executive committee is formed at next month’s meeting then the group will cease to exist.

It says: “An Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) will be held on Thursday, November 13, in the group’s hall for the specific purpose of voting in a new executive committee.

“Should this not be achieved, the group will cease to function from that date and all section activities will be suspended. ‘‘This includes all weekly Beavers, Cubs and Scouts sessions and any planned events, including the Douglaswood Camp in December.”

The EGM is scheduled for 7.30pm with a start planned for 7.45..
