Advanced painting group

THE Advanced Painting Class, run by Mearns artist D.E. Johnston, is underway at the Venue in Laurencekirk.

The six-week course of workshops is specifically designed for artists who have some experience in their chosen medium. Some are oil painters though most are working in acrylics or watercolour.

Each workshop focuses on a key aspect of painting and looks at how artists from Eardley to Hockney, Caravaggio to Pisarro have used key aspects of composition, line, tone & colour to create great work.

"The theme of the course is 'Making Better Pictures'. By looking at how Old and Modern masters create successful works, we can explore how they created successful work, " according to the course tutor.

He added: "All those attending are extremely enthusiastic and we've already had some very lively discussions. The workshops provide an informal forum in which we are able to share our passion for painting, meet fellow artists and exchange ideas and advice. The talent and commitment shown by course members is very encouraging."
