The ‘Northern Lights,’ or aurora borealis, had everyone talking last week as many caught sight of the phenomenon.

Here are some of the amazing pictures we were sent last week from readers who managed to get some fantastic snaps.

Brian Doyle sent us the two pictures taken up at the Stonehaven War Memorial, both giving an amazing contrast of colours.

Stuart Alexander sent in another picture that he took at the Stonehaven boardwalk. He said in an e-mail to the Leader: “Taken after a tip-off from friends, Craig and Jill, walking their dog, Monty, along Stonehaven boardwalk. Used a DSLR and around a 20s exposure. The display was spectacular even considering the amount of glare from the town - the brightest are the new floodlights at Stonehaven Tennis Club.”

The aurora borealis, normally only visible inside the Arctic Circle was seen all across the UK with Kincardine and Mearns no exception.
