Body of woman named

THE body of a woman discovered on Johnshaven beach last Thursday morning has been named.

Police confirmed on Tuesday that the body had been identified as (Jane) Janie Thomson (55), from Kirriemuir.

There were no suspicious circumstances.

The village was buzzing with emergency services, journalists and photographers following the sad discovery.

The body was discoverd by lifeguard crew at around 9.30am on Thursday February 28 but was not named as Jane Thomson until Tuesday morning.

Coastguard personnel from Stonehaven, Montrose, Arbroath and Carnoustie had been searching the coastline, along with two lifeboats from Montrose after Ms Thomson was reported missing after leaving her home address at noon on Wednesday February 27.

Officers believed she was using a blue Land Rover Discovery and gave its number plate in their appeal.

The vehicle was found parked at Johnshaven harbour and was guarded by police before being uplifted in the afternoon of Thursday February 28.

Janie’s family have asked that their privacy be respected at this difficult time.
